The Honda FCX is the first hydrogen fuel cell-powered car to become road legal in the United States. About five were sold so far. Honda has long been the most environmentally sound automaker. There are just a few problems:
- You can't go fill up a tank of pure hydrogen anywhere. This problem can be overcome. You used to not be able to go fill up a tank of gasoline.
- We no longer use zeppelins because hydrogen is explosive. Is the hydrogen used in cars somehow safer?
There are ways to solve both problems of obtaining and of storing hydrogen, but the means are more difficult and less efficient than using pure hydrogen.
Despite problems, this is definitely a positive step.
