I found proof that computers never should have been invented.

I Admit It!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, J.K. Rowling

It makes me feel good that I'm not the only one obsessed with a children's book.

Much Stuff

Tuesday, June 24, 2003

I've been spending most of my blog time on The Jedi, so bear with the newfound slowness. It was incredibly hot today so my attempted frisbee playing ended up being a few guys hiding from the sun, too hot to run. Whoa, that rhymed. And it was also well-timed. My brother is at the prom so I get Harry Potter 5 all to myself. Woohoo.

Brother Graduated

Sunday, June 22, 2003

My brother just graduated. It still hasn't really struck me that he will be moving out within a couple months. I never actually lived for more than a month without him, so I don't know what to expect. Everybody doubted my ability to fit a graduation cap over my hair but I managed to do it. Now we are going out for food so g'bye.

Jedi Site

Saturday, June 21, 2003

I set up a blog for The Jedi, the Oceanside HS ultimate frisbee team.

Uh. Exams.

Friday, June 20, 2003

Holy cow! I finished the second of two final exams today at the same time that I woke up yesterday. Without a blog I never would have realized that. I love you Blogger!

Randomness

Friday, June 20, 2003

The Spanish Regents was easy. I had to wake up early for it, but it was alright. I then got some pizza and came back for the Math III Regents. Well, sort of like that—I had to get some frisbee in there. The math test was easier than any of the past tests given for review. I got forty minutes of sleep (fake sleep, a.k.a. rest) since we weren't allowed to leave until 2:05 PM and I finished it at 1:25 PM. I played some more frisbee after that. It was really windy and a storm was brewing so everybody left, but luckily just as I was about to leave a bunch of Polish people from college showed up and we had a game of ultimate.

Yesterday I was discussing what it meant to speak a language fluently with Sam and Zhana. It means to speak with a natural flow and understanding of its mechanics even if you are really bad at it and can't get your grammar right if your life depended on it. During this conversation though, it struck me that teenagers communicate very little in English and mostly in, um, you know. Even people like I, whose language skills, in my humble opinion, are pretty good can't seem to spontaneously put their thoughts into words when speaking. Maybe it will come to me eventually.

Time for this week's Friday Five

  1. Is your hair naturally curly, wavy, or straight? Long or short?
  2. How has your hair changed over your lifetime?
  3. How do your normally wear your hair?
  4. If you could change your hair this minute, what would it look like?
  5. Ever had a hair disaster? What happened?

This is so fucking shallow for a Friday Five. My hair used to be regular curly hair, then short, and now it's a fro. If I could change my hair I would get a larger fro. I guess this Friday Five is symbolic of the wasted week of sleep, exams, and bad weather.

Bleh

Thursday, June 19, 2003

There really is nothing to blog about. I slept till 1:25 PM (that's 13:25 GMT -5 for my international readers) and played frisbee and guitar. I may get a job at Play-it-Again sports which will fund a new amp and I may also buy a new computer with the money.

Global Regents

Wednesday, June 18, 2003

Today was the Global regents. I am now one test closer to vacation. It was incredibly easy. By incredibly easy I mean that a chimp that had never taken a history course would be embarassed if it failed. Frisbee sucked (had a low turnout) because of the weather. O well.

Life of a Freeman

Tuesday, June 17, 2003

I slept till noon, ate, played Super Smash Brothers, played ultimate, played Super Smash Brothers, ate, posted on various forums, and blogged.

Last Day of Classes

Monday, June 16, 2003

Classes ended today. It was awesome. We played Seniors and Alumni versus all else in Ultimate. Then this year's captains passed down their captainship and Sam and I were selected. This broke the trend of seniority and kinda pissed Ian off. I then hung out with Sam. I had to come home early, but am only blogging now because of Aberrant. Now Andrew is sleeping over for tomorrows game of Ultimate.

Jeremy came to school in a bathrobe.

End of the (School) Year

Sunday, June 15, 2003

Tomorrow is the last day of classes. That year went by so quickly. I finished my comp. sci. and photo projects, so all I have left is standardized testing. I already took the hard tests (World History AP, SAT II Chem,) so it's smooth sailing from here.

Magnum

Saturday, June 14, 2003

I just checked out Magnum's website. They offer a great amount of galleries, including hundreds if not thousands of pictures by Henri Cartier-Bresson, my favorite photographer.

Discs

Saturday, June 14, 2003

I got my discs today. I don't feel like blogging.

Friday Five

Friday, June 13, 2003

K, here's the Friday Five. I hope I remember to do this next week too.

1. What's one thing you've always wanted to do, but never have?
I always wanted to fly—a glider, hang glider, small plane—I really don't care what it is. I just want to try one of those.
2. When someone asks your opinion about a new haircut/outfit/etc, are you always honest?
No. I try to be honest, but sometimes it's better to not voice every little opinion you may have.
3. Have you ever found out something about a friend and then wished you hadn't? What happened?
Not that I can remember, no.
4. If you could live in any fictional world (from a book/movie/game/etc.) which would it be and why?
I guess I would live on Blistonia—the planet from the Simpsons that the Leader will take the Movementarians to.
5. What's one talent/skill you don't have but always wanted?
I'd like to be able to sing. I play guitar, so I'd be set if I didn't suck so much at singing. Whatever, I can still be a non-singing guitarist.

Oops

Friday, June 13, 2003

Sorry, I forgot about the Friday Five last week. The new one is already up, but I'm not going to do it now. G'night.

Quiet American

Friday, June 13, 2003

I just finished my review of The Quiet American for Global. You should watch it; it's a great movie.

Awards

Thursday, June 12, 2003

I only got about fifteen minutes of tossing the disc around, but I perspired more today at the award ceremony than I would have playing a full-fledged game of ultimate. It wasn't too bad—I entertained myself by pissing of Charlie Cook (good-naturedly of course.) I also managed to beat Matt Potts at chess just before the ceremony. I'm upset that I only got two cookies, though. I got two awards: the general did-well-in-class award and the second-place-on-Earth-science-Regents award. All in all, I give the ceremony seven out ten thumbs up and six out of twenty thumbs down.

I can't believe that there are only two days of classes left. I also can't believe that I have so much damn work at the end of the year!

Guitar lesson at 7. Peace.

Why Learn?

Thursday, June 12, 2003

I'm in Comp. Sci. and am taking a rectreational period. The science awards are coming up. I'll bear through the hour of frisbee-deprivation for the award and cookies that are rumored to served at the ceremony's conclusion.

What's Wrong with this Blasted Machine?

Wednesday, June 11, 2003

I worked on my Comp. Sci. project. After getting stuck in a rut for about fifteen minutes I decided to continue tomorrow and move on to greater things. Today wasn't really exciting besides getting drenched, so g'night. Ah, tomorrow. Then I shall have my discs (hopefully.)

Frisbee in the Rain

Wednesday, June 11, 2003

I was horribly soaked. We stopped ultimate when the lightning started, but but that point I was already soaked and I still had a bike ride ahead of me. O well; since that (about 4:30) I have recovered. Today was Sperling's last day until he goes to Maine for work. On my way home some asshole thought it would be funny to give the finger to a wet kid from his car. I don't really care since he didn't have nearly as much fun moving a digit as I did playing ultimate in the rain, but this incident gives me insight into some of the morons in this world. The cup is half-empty.

Jon: Is the cup half-empty or half-full. Garfield: (Drinks contents of glass) All empty.

Freaks

Tuesday, June 10, 2003

This is so incredibly ridiculous. I'm watching the History Channel, but not for history. "Modern theorists" are telling their theories of UFOs in the Bible. The segment I just watched was about the Exodus. One theory, the source of it being a Presbytarian dressed as a Catholic priest, is that a UFO's propulsion system parted the waters for Moses.

Apparently when Moses went up Mount Sinai he went inside the UFO and the extraterrestrials gave him the Torah. They then showed this really creepy video of Moses. It's fucking hilarious.

Up next: Jesus's resurection.

random*Lenny?

Tuesday, June 10, 2003

I added a random sentence or fragment thing on the navbar. Use it wisely.

Tidbit

Tuesday, June 10, 2003

Mr. Krizel had to sign a sign a statement saying that he is not a communist when applying for his teaching job.

Mom and brother not yet here. Party! j/k, dad home. Fragments.

Old Regents

Tuesday, June 10, 2003

Happy Standardized Testing Flashback Day! Mr. Krizel showed us the 1957 and 1965 Global Regents. Mrs. Kelly showed us the 1972 Math III Regents. Coincidence? I think not!

Eek! Random!

Tuesday, June 10, 2003

Guess what I did after school? If you guessed frisbee you win a pat on the back...from yourself. I am anticipating the arrival of my mom, discs, and brother.

Today was yet another cool day. The last couple of weeks have really kicked ass although one might expect me to be anxious for summer and not like these last weeks.

Dave Kopel said that he wanted me to mention his site so: http://www.munkys.com/. It's a tech forum.

Today is/was less intense in schoolwork than yesterday. In Global we're doing more practice Regents, which at first were entertainingly easy but are now just plain annoying. In English we're reading a pretty cool play by Arthur Miller with Mr. Minor doing stage direction. He wore his salmon shirt today. Chem is in review mode, with what looks to be work but is incredibly easy. Photo is probably my hardest class right now, with a project deadline impeding. Math is Regents review, but I manage to bullshit my way through class without doing anything. Spanish we're doing actual work for review. And lastly in Comp. Sci. I am doing the final for two other people.

I improved both my flick and hammer today. On the hammer I wasn't extending my arm all the way before. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, come to the field at Brower and Skillman at 2:40 tommorow.

This post is horribly disorganized. Cheers.

Spanish at Heart

Monday, June 09, 2003

I finished my homework a few minutes ago. I had to write a Spanish composition, which included a great conclusion. It was supposed to be a letter asking for a scholarship to live and study in a Spanish-speaking country. Anyway, one of the final sentences was Para mi, vivir es hablar en espaƱol. That's actually very poetic despite its lameness.

Discs Shipped, etc.

Monday, June 09, 2003

The discs shipped out today, so they should arrive in about two days. Obviously there was frisbee today, especially since the weather was beautiful.

Computerwise, in the half-hour or so I spent programming I kinda figured out how to make a multi-client echo server in Java that doesn't crap out after it has been accessed the number of times that it is supposed to support at one time, not overall. I'm using some thread crap with the...nevermind. Just email me if you want the source. I'm going to need this for my computer science final (due this Friday,) so it wasn't such a waste of time despite the program's current uselessness.

I actually have real work today; school is almost over though. The summer reading program is being canceled after some bitch whose husband has influence in the district wanted to ban certain books from reaching her son. We were assigned three books of which we are supposed to choose two, but we may not even have to read those.

Schools

Sunday, June 08, 2003

My brother and mother left for the University of Maryland orientation this morning. Yesterday I hung out with Margaret and some other peeps and learned that I am a llama. Today was tenis. I still have to do my homework, but it shouldn't take long—school has been a joke since the AP World History exam. I am yet another day closer to getting my frisbees.

Chemistry Exam

Saturday, June 07, 2003

The chemistry SAT II was pretty easy. I took the test from nine to ten and kept coming back to school to find people to play frisbee, but all but three people gave me some bullshit excuse about rain, and I was only able to play with one person at a time.

Who Studies Anyway?

Friday, June 06, 2003

Fri Jun 06, 06:22:22 PM:
D'oh! Tommorow I have the chemistry SAT II. O well. I took a practice test and got a 730. That seems good enough, but I'll review a bit more today.

Did you really expect me to study? Well, g'night.

Ordered Discrafts

Friday, June 06, 2003

I just ordered four new Discraft discs from Disc Shoppe. Take a look at their Ultimate disc index. I got Clockwork Orange, Monkey Banana, Curly World, and BUDA. What a company—they offer the best Ultimate disc with their own great designs at good prices.

SAT II Encroaching

Friday, June 06, 2003

D'oh! Tomorrow I have the chemistry SAT II. O well. I took a practice test and got a 730. That seems good enough, but I'll review a bit more today.

June in School Blues

Friday, June 06, 2003

Today was great. Once again I did no real work, and once again there was great frisbee. I just got home at approximately 5:50—we were playing frisbee the whole time. The game itself wasn't as intense as yesterday's, but I still had a great time.

Today was also senior cut day. My brother went to school for Mr. Ehrman's class because he assigns so much work, and odds are I'm going to have him next year. There were a lot of drunk people on the road due to the festivities and Evan Potts got hit by a car when we were tossing the disc around after ultimate, but was unscathed.

Quote of the day: "Who are you?" – "Eighth grader." This was said by Matt Potts and the ever-so-humbe David Abrukin. Note: Quote of the day is not a daily feature.

John

Thursday, June 05, 2003

Warning to all students of Oceanside HS: John, the stoner security guard said to me, "I'll cut your ding-dong off." This occurred last year, but I just remembered to post it now. If you ask him about it he would deny it because he forgot about it due to his excessive smoking of pot, but Marc Beja will attest to it.

EDIT: Actually he said, "I'll cut your ding-dongs off," since he was talking to two people.

I'm Drained and I Love It!

Thursday, June 05, 2003

Frisbee was amazing today. I'm incredibly tired. I just love the feeling of running on nothing. The game was really intense and long, so for the last half-hour or so I had no energy, yet I continued to play. We used a beautiful new Discraft. I'm completely drained physically—a great feeling.

I have a guitar lesson in about an hour. Bye.

Hickey

Wednesday, June 04, 2003

I played chess instead of frisbee. Mr. Hickey said that he plans to shave his head and grow a beard, which he will braid.

Shavo Odadjian

Skool is kool—err

Wednesday, June 04, 2003

Dear Diary,

Mrs. Kelly was in Math today, but for some reason she is not in Comp. Sci., so I am able to blog rather than work. On another note, today was such a waste of the school's new budget. I had no work.

In English Mr. Minor forgot to take his Midol, so we had one of those days where we work for about five minutes and then he makes racial comments and insults everyone in the class. One class like this makes up for two-and-a-half days of him being an asshole. He also said he won't be in Friday. I'm shocked. Then I bullshitted my way through Regents review in my other classes and now I have no teacher.

Unfortunately, it is raining so I won't be able to play frisbee. Cheers!

Gym

Tuesday, June 03, 2003

I worked out today. I really did. Ya know what really gets me about the gym though? Everybody there's a phony. I met this one sunovabitch...

Enough Catcher-speak, but I really did work out. You may find that pretty funny, but I'm going it to start going more often.

Not Very Interesting

Monday, June 02, 2003

Since my last post I managed to eat dinner, play some hackey sack, and finish my little presentation dealie about energy depletion. Now for some beautiful sleep.

Wow. I just realized how pointless this post is. I'll think of something interesting soon enough. I've got it! Earlier today I created a mythical land called Lonstantinople (naming credit to Mike Gurman.) In this land we extract energy from bananas, which we obtain by trading the plantains that we harvest. Pretty strange, I know. Well, good night.

Friday Five

Monday, June 02, 2003

Time for the Friday Five for May 30, 2003

1. What do you most want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered as somebody who did not strive to appear heroic, but acted morally despite any incentive for reconition or lack thereof. In other words, I don't need to be remembered by all as a good person as long as I filled that role.
2. What quotation best fits your outlook on life?
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." —Abraham Lincoln. This quote reflects my quiet nature, as well as my sense of humor. It's also just one of those great quotes that everybody likes whether they agree with it or not.
3. What single achievement are you most proud of in the past year?
Hmm, this is pretty tough. I guess I would have to say my greatest achievement of the past year would be making peace with the people who had a mutual malice with me.
4. What about the past ten years?
Hmm, even tougher. In my current sleep-deprived state I cannot recall my life very well so I'll just cheat and say that my greatest achievement of the past decade is the same as the one of the last year. I may change this; I may not.
5. If you were asked to give a child a single piece of advice to guide them through life, what would you say?
"Do not worry about the minor errors you may make. As long as you remain true to yourself and a moral person, you will eventually find happiness." Whoa, I could use some advice like that.

And thus I conclude my first Friday Five.

Bob Ross

Monday, June 02, 2003

I'm conflicted. Which part of the Bob Ross homepage is most amusing: "GERMANY CLICK HERE!" or "Take me home Bob"? The Joy of Painting is a great show, but the website is a bit worse than it can be. It could be snazzed up with some Bob Ross paintings as backgrounds and a nice font or something. Unfortunately, the creators of bobross.com did not have a happy accident.

English Paper

Monday, June 02, 2003

I'm done. The English paper is due in eight-and-a-half hours, but I'm done.

Blogging 101

Sunday, June 01, 2003

The template is done. I'm still working on the English paper, but decided to take a brief rest from it.

So now that the blog is fully up and running to my rigorous standards, I will give all of my avid readers (meaning me as I review my own posts) an introduction to my blog.

Enjoy!
